About this hotel

Hotel Zeedijk City Center sits at number 6 on the Zeedijk, the old sea dike that links Prins Hendrikkade with Nieuwmarkt and forms the northern and eastern edge of De Wallen. That address puts it at the station end of the street: about 400 m from Amsterdam Centraal, with the Basilica of St Nicholas a few steps away on Prins Hendrikkade. Walk south along the Zeedijk and you pass through Amsterdam's small Chinatown, lined with Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese restaurants, before reaching the Waag on Nieuwmarkt. The hotel is adults-only. Rooms have air conditioning, a work desk, a TV, a fridge, an electric kettle with tea and coffee, and free Wi-Fi, and the whole property is smoke-free. Check-in and check-out can be done privately or as express service, and rooms are cleaned daily. The listings we checked do not mention breakfast, a lift or luggage storage, so travellers with heavy cases should ask before arriving rather than assume.

Our take

Number 6 is the first stretch of the Zeedijk coming from the station, which keeps the walk from Amsterdam Centraal to about 400 m, with the Basilica of St Nicholas as your landmark on Prins Hendrikkade. I would book it for a couple or a solo traveller arriving by Intercity or international train who wants to be out of the station and in a room within minutes. The hotel is adults-only, and the rooms have air conditioning, rare enough in old Amsterdam buildings to matter in July. The street is the edge of De Wallen and the start of Chinatown, lively into the evening, and the hotel does not announce soundproofing. Light sleepers and families should look elsewhere.

  • Leave Amsterdam Centraal on the city side, cross Prins Hendrikkade and aim for the Basilica of St Nicholas: the Zeedijk starts right beside it.
  • No source we checked mentions a lift or luggage storage, so ask the hotel about bags before a late check-out day.
  • For dinner without walking far, the restaurants of Chinatown line the Zeedijk itself, on the way to Nieuwmarkt and the Waag.
  • The listing offers express check-out, handy when an early train out of Centraal leaves before the street wakes up.

Why we love it

  • Fridge, kettle and desk in every room
Why guests love it

I would send couples and solo travellers here, not families: the hotel is adults-only. For someone arriving at Amsterdam Centraal with a single bag, the address is hard to beat, about 400 m from the station at the Prins Hendrikkade end of the Zeedijk. Rooms are air-conditioned and smoke-free, with a desk, a fridge and a kettle, and guests in our data rate the hotel 9 out of 10 across 84 reviews. The trade-offs are the street and the unknowns. The Zeedijk runs along the edge of De Wallen and through Chinatown, busy in the evening, and no soundproofing is announced. The listings do not mention breakfast, a lift or a luggage room, so travellers with heavy cases should ask before booking.
