About this hotel

Hotel Sawariya is a temple-quarter address, not a station hotel. Travel sites place it in Shivganga Muhalla, off Jalsar Road, a few hundred metres from the Baba Baidyanath temple; I could not confirm the exact street number, so pin it on a map before booking. From the temple, Jharkhand Tourism counts about 1.5 km and ten minutes to Baidyanathdham station, and about 7.7 km and 25 minutes to Jasidih Junction, where auto-rickshaws wait outside the station; the district puts Deoghar Junction (DGHR) about 3 km away, with no published ride time, so allow for a road trip across town.

Deoghar Junction is the terminus of the Varanasi–Deoghar Vande Bharat (22500 and 22499), which runs every day except Tuesday and stops at Jasidih just before, and the Godda–Ranchi Intercity (18620) reaches it in the evening after Basukinath. Expresses on the Howrah–Patna–Delhi main line stop only at Jasidih. The hotel's restaurant saves a search for dinner after that ride. In Shravan, roughly July to August, kanwariya pilgrims walk about 105 km from Sultanganj and bathe in the Shivganga, beside this quarter, before entering the temple; Mondays are the busiest days.

Our take

Hotel Sawariya sits in the temple quarter, a few hundred metres from Baba Baidyanath, with meals served in its own restaurant. That makes it a hotel for the temple rather than for the trains: from the temple, Baidyanathdham station is about 1.5 to 2 km away, Deoghar Junction about 3 km, and Jasidih, where the main-line expresses stop, about 7 km, roughly 25 minutes by road. I would book it for a temple visit arriving on the Vande Bharat or an Intercity. I would not book it for a pre-dawn train from Jasidih, nor for the Mondays of Shravan, when the lanes around the Shivganga fill with kanwariyas and every ride across town slows down.

  • Check the station code on your ticket: DGHR is Deoghar Junction, BDME is Baidyanathdham and JSME is Jasidih Junction. From Jasidih, daily MEMU and passenger locals reach Baidyanathdham in about 20 minutes, ending about 1.5 km from the temple.
  • On the Varanasi–Deoghar Vande Bharat (22500), stay on board after Jasidih and ride to the terminus at Deoghar Junction: it is about 4 km closer to the temple quarter. The train does not run on Tuesdays.
  • The Godda–Ranchi Intercity (18620) calls at Basukinath, the other Shiva temple that pilgrims pair with Deoghar, before reaching Deoghar Junction in the evening.
  • The hotel publishes no check-in time and does not say whether reception is staffed through the night: arriving on that evening Intercity or a late train at Jasidih, send the hotel your train number and arrival time when you book.
  • In Shravan, avoid arriving on a Monday: that is when the stream of kanwariyas walking in from Sultanganj peaks, and the Shivganga where they bathe is right beside this quarter.

Why we love it

  • A short walk to the Baba Baidyanath temple
  • Meals on site after an evening train
  • Next to the Shivganga, where the Shravan pilgrims arrive
Why guests love it

For a family, the appeal of Hotel Sawariya is the short walk to the temple rather than to a station. It sits a few hundred metres from Baba Baidyanath, so a temple visit with children does not depend on a car, and the restaurant means dinner without heading back out after the ride from the train. I could not confirm a lift, family rooms, parking, a check-in time or a reception open all night, which matters with tired children after an evening train. The catch is the station run: Deoghar Junction is about 3 km from the temple and Jasidih about 7 km, so with luggage and children you need a ride both ways. I would avoid the Mondays of Shravan with young children, when the lanes around the Shivganga fill with pilgrims walking in from Sultanganj.
