St Christopher's Inn Amsterdam - The Winston
Adults-only hostel on Warmoesstraat, seven minutes on foot from Amsterdam Centraal
About this hotel
Belushi's bar on the ground floor sets the tone of The Winston: live music and DJs most evenings, food until 22:00, and a garden terrace behind the building for a quieter drink. Upstairs, the choice runs from mixed dorms and female-only en-suite dorms to private rooms, some with a balcony, and pod beds, each with its own privacy curtain. Groups can also book a whole dorm as a private room.
Rail travellers benefit from the practical details: a 24-hour reception, a lift with step-free access, accessible rooms and bathrooms, lockers in the dorms and luggage storage before check-in and after check-out, with check-in from 15:00 and check-out by 11:00. Amsterdam Centraal is about seven minutes on foot along Warmoesstraat, and Dam Square is less than a minute away. Key cards open both the front door of the building and the rooms.

Our take
Warmoesstraat 129 puts The Winston about seven minutes on foot from Amsterdam Centraal and less than a minute from Dam Square, on one of the oldest streets of the medieval centre, at the edge of De Wallen. That address is the whole argument for a rail traveller: you roll a case down one straight street, check in at a 24-hour desk and take a lift to the upper floors, which many canal-house hostels lack. The trade-off is noise. Belushi's bar on the ground floor runs live music and DJs, and reviewers regularly mention sound and housekeeping. I would book it for a social night between trains, in a pod or a female-only en-suite dorm, and steer light sleepers elsewhere; the hostel admits adults only.
- Leave Centraal on the Stationsplein side, cross Prins Hendrikkade and follow Warmoesstraat south: number 129 is at the Dam end, so the walk with a case is one straight street.
- Breakfast is not included in the room: the continental breakfast is an add-on at booking, while Belushi's kitchen serves food until 22:00, which helps after an evening arrival.
- Bags can stay at the hostel, for a fee, before the 15:00 check-in and after the 11:00 check-out, so a last afternoon in town before an evening train costs you no dragging.
- Ask for an upper floor away from Belushi's: the ground-floor bar hosts live music and DJs, and the lift makes the higher floors easy with luggage.
Why we love it
- A straight seven-minute walk from Amsterdam Centraal along Warmoesstraat
- A lift and step-free access, uncommon in old-centre hostels
- Pod beds with privacy curtains and female-only en-suite dorms
- Luggage storage on both sides of the stay, handy before an evening train
Why guests love itThe Winston is a hostel built around its bar, and that decides who should sleep here. For an interrailer stepping off a train at Amsterdam Centraal with one bag and plans for the evening, few beds are closer to the old centre: seven minutes on foot, a 24-hour reception, a lift and step-free access, lockers in the dorms and luggage storage on either side of the stay. Rooms run from mixed and female-only en-suite dorms to private rooms, some with a balcony, and pod beds with privacy curtains. The garden terrace at the back is the calm corner. Across 2,427 reviews averaging 8.6, guests praise the location and the staff, while recurring complaints concern noise and cleanliness. It is not a family address: the hostel takes adults only, and Warmoesstraat runs along the edge of the red-light district, busy late into the night.
