About this hotel

karaksa hotel colors Tokyo Yaesu sits on the Yaesu side of Tokyo Station, the side with the shinkansen gates and, under Tokyo Midtown Yaesu, the Bus Terminal Tokyo Yaesu for highway buses. The walk from the Yaesu Central exit takes about six minutes; exit B1 of Nihombashi station, on Tokyo Metro and the Toei Asakusa Line, is four minutes away. From Narita, the Narita Express reaches Tokyo Station in about an hour, but its platforms lie five floors underground, so count extra time to reach the exit. From Haneda's Terminal 3, the hotel suggests the Tokyo Monorail to Hamamatsucho, about 18 minutes, then seven minutes on the JR Yamanote Line. Standard doubles, twins and triples measure 21 m²; quadruples and wide twins pass 30 m² with beds on a raised floor. 52 of the 95 rooms connect in pairs through an inner door, each keeping its own bathroom. The second-floor lounge serves the breakfast buffet from 7:00 to 10:00, then opens free to guests from 13:00 to 22:00 as a waiting room and, in the evening, a bar. The first-floor front desk keeps bags before check-in and after check-out, to be collected the same day. There is a laundry corner on the third floor, some rooms have a washer-dryer, and the hotel has no car park. Do not confuse it with karaksa hotel TOKYO STATION, a separate building of the same group.

  • Six minutes on foot from Tokyo Station's Yaesu Central exit, on the shinkansen side
  • Four minutes from exit B1 of Nihombashi station (Tokyo Metro and Toei Asakusa Line)
  • 52 of the 95 rooms connect by an inner door, up to six guests across two rooms
  • Quadruple and wide twin rooms over 30 m², beds on a raised floor
  • Second-floor lounge: breakfast buffet 7:00 to 10:00, free for guests 13:00 to 22:00
  • Laundry corner on the third floor, and washer-dryers in some rooms

Our take

More than half of the 95 rooms here, 52 of them, open onto a neighbour through an inner door, so a group of six gets two rooms and two bathrooms six minutes on foot from Tokyo Station's Yaesu Central exit. That is the reason I would book it. The Yaesu side is also where the shinkansen gates are, so the morning walk never crosses the station. The weak point is space: standard doubles, twins and triples measure 21 m², tight once two large cases are open. The quadruple and the wide twin pass 30 m², with the beds on a raised floor section. A solo traveller who needs room to work should look elsewhere.

  • The second-floor lounge is free for guests from 13:00 to 22:00, alcohol excepted: after the 11:00 check-out, leave your bags at the first-floor desk and come back to wait there for an afternoon shinkansen.
  • Breakfast starts at 7:00 in the lounge, last entry 9:30. For a shinkansen before 7:30, skip it and buy an ekiben inside Tokyo Station on the way to the gates.
  • Arriving late? The entrance is locked from 1:00 to 5:00, and you ring the intercom to reach the staff, so keep your booking name ready.
  • Arriving on the Narita Express, allow extra time: its platforms are five floors underground on the far side of the station, and the six minutes only start at the Yaesu Central exit.
  • From Haneda's Terminal 3, the hotel's own route is the Tokyo Monorail to Hamamatsucho, about 18 minutes, then seven minutes on the JR Yamanote Line to Tokyo Station.

Why we love it

  • 52 connecting rooms, each pair with two bathrooms, for groups of up to six
  • On the shinkansen side of Tokyo Station, six minutes from the Yaesu Central exit
  • A lounge built to wait in before a shinkansen or highway bus
Why guests love it

I would send a family here when the trip starts or ends with a shinkansen. The hotel is on the Yaesu side, where the shinkansen gates are, and exit B1 of Nihombashi station, four minutes away, puts you on the Ginza and Tozai lines and the Toei Asakusa Line without entering Tokyo Station at all. With 52 connecting rooms, a family of five or six can split across two rooms with a bathroom each, and the quadruple, over 30 m², raises the beds on a platform so children have floor space below. The lounge keeps drinks and sweets for children, and a laundry corner plus washer-dryers in some rooms help on a long rail trip. The flaw is the standard room, 21 m², which a stroller and two cases will fill. Guests rate it 9 out of 10 across 388 reviews. Parents arriving late should know the entrance is locked from 1:00 to 5:00; the intercom reaches the staff.
